Fatma ŞAHİN was born in Gaziantep in 20 June 1966. Her parents are Mustafa and Perihan KIYMIK. She is the eldest one of her siblings, 2 sisters and one brother. She was graduated from Faculity of Chemistry and Metallurgy of Istanbul Technical Unversity after completing her primary education in İstiklal Primary School and her highschool education in Girls Highschool. Shortly after completing her education she began to work as Management Engineer in a private company worked as a managament engineer and operating manager for 18 years.
Fatma ŞAHİN, who is married and has two children, became a founding member of Justice and Development Party’s Gaziantep Provincial Organization, elected as a member of the parliament first in 2002 elections. She served at the parliament during the 22nd, 23rd and 24th terms as deputy for Gaziantep. In 2007 she was elected to the General Presidency of Justice and Development Party Women Branch. She worked in Industry Commerce and Energy Commission, EU Harmonization Commission and Honour Killings and Child Battering Research Commissions of the Parliament.
She was assigned as founding minister for the newly established Ministry of Family and Social Policies during 61st Government in 6 July 2011. She resigned from her office 26th December 2013 to become candidate for Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality mayor in 30 March 2014 local elections. As a result of the elections, she succeeded to become one of the first women mayors in a metropolitan municipality in Turkey with %54,7 voting rate.
